Insects

It is being said that, due to factors such as climate change and the use of insectisides in farming and gardening, the insect life of Britain is dwindling. An anecdotal example of this is that at the end of a car journey in the summer in previous years the windscreen would have to be cleaned of dozens of insects that had met their end, splattered against the glass. Now windscreens are almost as clean at the end of the journey as at the beginning, even after travelling hundreds of miles.

Apart from the insects themselves, the food chain is also obviously affected, with birds, fish and small mammals all suffering, and also disappearing from our landscape and indeed our gardens.

We'd love to hear your experiences of this - have you noticed certain species that no longer seem to be around, or do you think it's simply nor true. Have your say in our forum on wildlife on an issue that could be a sign of much greater changes to come.
