Coastline |
Erosion of coastlines is something that happens naturally and can't be halted by human intervention. Another consequence of the climate change we are now experiencing is that coastal erosion is speeding up to the extent where people who live on the coast will experience land loss during their lifetimes that would previously have taken much longer. Higher sea levels and stormier weather can only result in the speeding up of this natural process.
Offshore operations such as dredging for aggregates has also been proved to be a contributing factor. The resulting sinkage of the sea bed causes a shift which contributes to coastal erosion as well as damaging wildlife and the seabed ecosystem.
We'd love to hear your views on this subject. Is your property in danger from coastal erosion? What do you think is the main cause? Is there anything we can do about it? Post your comments on our forum now.
