The demise of the working chimney is certainly not a cause of sadness, but their gradual disappearance from the skyline might cause some to miss their sometimes pleasing visual quality on the tops of some of our older buildings. Industrial chimneys may not be very much missed, but domestic ones might still be held dear as a reminder of days past.
We'd like some of your photos of more unusual chimneys and chimneys that might be in danger of disappearing through delapidation or demolition. Are you glad to see the back of them, or do you have fond memories of any particular examples? Do you miss sitting round a roaring open fire or has central heating made your chimney thankfully redundant? We'd also like to hear from any chimney sweeps out there - how's business?
